Dr. Charles Leale Treating President Abraham Lincoln After He Was Shot At Ford's Theatre Dr Feelgood: The Shocking Story Of The Doctor Who May Have Changed History By Treating And Drugging JFK Marilyn Elvis And Other Prominent Figures

On April 14, 1865, President Abraham Lincoln was shot at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C. He was rushed to a nearby boarding house, where he died the following morning. The doctor who treated Lincoln that night was Dr. Charles Leale, a young army surgeon who had just arrived in the city.

Leale's treatment of Lincoln was controversial at the time, and it remains controversial today. Some historians believe that Leale's actions may have saved Lincoln's life, while others believe that he may have hastened his death.

What is not in dispute is that Leale was the only doctor who treated Lincoln on the night of his assassination. He was also the one who pronounced Lincoln dead the following morning.

Leale's account of the events of that night is the only firsthand account that we have. In his memoir, Leale wrote that he arrived at the boarding house where Lincoln was being treated at around 11:00 p.m. He found Lincoln lying on a bed, with a bullet wound to the head.

Leale examined Lincoln's wound and determined that it was fatal. He then gave Lincoln some morphine to relieve his pain.

Lincoln died at around 7:22 a.m. the following morning. Leale pronounced him dead and then left the boarding house.

Leale's treatment of Lincoln has been the subject of much debate over the years. Some historians believe that Leale's actions may have saved Lincoln's life. They argue that Leale's morphine may have helped to relieve Lincoln's pain and that his presence may have helped to calm Lincoln down.

Other historians believe that Leale's actions may have hastened Lincoln's death. They argue that Leale's morphine may have depressed Lincoln's breathing and that his presence may have made Lincoln more anxious.

The truth of the matter is that we will never know for sure what would have happened if Leale had not treated Lincoln. However, it is clear that Leale's actions had a profound impact on the course of American history.

If Lincoln had died on the night of his assassination, it is likely that the Civil War would have continued for many more years. It is also possible that the United States would have been divided into two separate countries.

Leale's actions may have saved Lincoln's life, and they may have also changed the course of American history. He was a brave and compassionate doctor who did his best to help a dying president.

Leale's Legacy

Leale continued to serve in the army after the Civil War. He eventually became a surgeon general and retired in 1890. He died in 1902 at the age of 66.

Leale is remembered today as a hero who saved the life of President Abraham Lincoln. His story is a reminder of the importance of courage and compassion in the face of adversity.
